Philippine Paganism: What it is?

People are now aware of the term Babaylan due to commercialisation of the term in Multi and Social Media. But with the spread of these information to the public some people have concluded and devised the word Babaylanismo as a new religion.

The Belief of Babaylanismo is centered on the beliefs and action of the practitioner which is very eclectic and synchretetic mostly coming from the esoteric and occultic teachings from the west.

And since the Title of Babaylan is much sought title now in the new mellenia, even Christian Healers who follow Christ wanted to be called Babaylan.

Well for Luntiang Aghama this is not right. Babaylan is the Priest and Priestess of the Old Filipino God. In order to become a Babaylan you have to be called and chosen by the Old Filipino God.

In Luntiang Aghama, we recognize One Supreme God. And this One Supreme God has many name revelation to each tribal groups in the Philippines.

Indeed the Babaylan is the Priest of the Old God thus the religion practiced of the Babaylan is not called Babaylanismo but is called after the name of the God that called the Babaylan to serve.

Since God has many names revealed to man per tribe, the name of the religion of Babaylan vary from tribe to tribe such as in the Tagalog Region they call on Bathala thus their religion is known as Bathalaismo or Bathalaan and collectively the Pre Christian, Pre Islam, Pre Hindu/Buddist Religion of the Filipino is called Anituhan.
