Hi!
This is Apu Adman and we are going to share to you here what influence us to practice magick and i will begin sharing my story to you then afterwards Lakay. So let me begin…

My first fascination in Magick that i am fully aware of is through watching the movies of Ramon Revilla Sr. about his use of Anting Anting, Agimat and Orasyon. I am very thrilled to see him having Super Human powers that been attributed to his possession of magickal objects and words of powers such as spells and incantation which is known as Orasyon. Most of his movies are stories of real life person that uses Agimat, Anting Anting and Orasyon that lives in the Province of Cavite that won the heart of its citizen that makes him into the Philippine Senate.

At early age, i started to collect medallions like the Triangle Medallion with an Eye on the Middle and 3 A on each point and at the bottom of the triangle medallion is the word Roma. To some group, this medallion is known as Tres Piko but to western ideas this is known as the Eye of God. Because i was young at that time, i thought that having super human powers you must be close to God. And through that, i made my self active in church activities by volunteering as an Altar Boy under the Knights of the Holy Eucharist and also volunteered in a Choir Group. Aside from this I even have made collection of Prayer Books to almost all available saints that can be found in the Catholic Church, and before going to bed, i spend hours of praying all the prayers written in the Prayer Book and also do numerous novena.
But during my High School days, things changed. I was converted to the Bible Baptist Church that made me surrender all the stuff that i collected from numerous medallion and prayer books and burned them all before i was baptized and admitted to the new church i belong. My Father get mad at me when he learned that I change my religion, but my Mother defended me as she tell that before she was married to my Father, she was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist; and true enough I remember going to an Adventist Childrens Bible School during my childhood years.
At that time when i was a member of the Bible Baptist Church, i stop collecting madallion and prayer books but instead i start new collections of Bible in different Versions which the most dominant are from the King James Version and the New International Version. I almost memorize the Bible from Genesis to Revalation just to be closer to the creator. But within the teaching of the Bible, it forbid the practice of Magick. Though Magick is forbidden in Christianity, but the act of performing miracles and prophecy are allowed which is almost the same as doing Magick and Divination.
This thought made me more to desire for knowing magick. Aside from life saving and super human abilities of Anting anting, agimat and orasyon, i learned that the Babaylan were the First Priest and Priestesses of our Ancestors that also have super human powers that can also control forces of nature such as storms and the tides. But unfortunately, with the coming of Christianity in our country the Babaylan practice of Magick has been forbidden and now dressed up into the works of Spiritista and Albularyo who calls on the Holy Spirit to guide their work on healing.
All of these experience that i have are emphasizing to me about building Faith through Divinity. Faith in a sense that we should have hope for the things unseen and believing it firmly that the thing we hope for will bring forth beneficial change not only for us but also to the lives of people whom we serve. Regardless of what doctrine we embrace, when there is faith there is Power. But the question now is this: Whom do we put our Faith upon? As a Filipino, who is our God? If the Spaniards brought Christianity in our Land and teach about the Christian God and Islam about Allah, who then is the God of the Filipino that can empower us to practice Magick in our land?
There is nothing wrong in practicing magick as many people who have and practice it said that it is a gift. But for me, magick is more than a gift. It is not given that we need to accept or reject, but it comes out to us to use or ignore. It is part of our natural ability that we all have that needs to be reared and practice. Such as the ability to stand, walk and run. We all started life by just laying down on our crib or being handled by our mother in their arms. But as we grow up we start to learn how to stand, walk and run. We learn this naturally and we improve it through practice. This is the same with Magick. We need to practice it and use it to improve our abilities.
The only thing that happened to us as Filipino is that our mind is clouded with Fear through the poisons that been put into us by our colonizers. We have been told that Magick is bad and evil. It is the work of the devil to harm us which originally we do not recognize the Devil as Bad. In fact we acknowledge the Devil as a Deity according to the Katagalugan Pantheon of Deities under the Name of Sitan (which sounds like the name of the Christian Satan), who was a co ruler of the Kasanaan (which is the rehabilation center of the soul in the after life) together with the Supreme Diwata named Bathala. I will share more of my understanding on the Philippine Pantheon in our future post here at Filipino Magick, but for now this is what influence me to practice magick today.
Let’s read now Lakay’s story on what influence him to practice magick. Lakay… Go ahead and share to us your story….

I’m ALSent also known as Lakay Magbaya from Luntiang Aghama. My curiosity in magick and paranormal events hooked me during my grade school age. It was during the time when I accidentally discovered my father doing some weird stuff in their room. He uses a lot of colored candles, especially the green one and he arranges it in a circular form. He put a piece of dollar bill on the center of the circled candle and on the top of it he put a red apple. Then he whispers while his eyes are closed. Then after whispering he got the dollar bill where the apple is then he burned the dollar bill on the top of the apple while doing this I heard him continuously whispering some words. After that he leaves the room while the candles are still burning and the ashes of the dollar bill are still on the apple. He doesn’t touch anything and he just walks to the doorway and leaves the room. After that my mind doesn’t stop questioning about that kind of weird stuff that I’ve never seen before in our family. After that I become aware and more observant to my father’s action. Every time he return home from work I meet him first to greet him in that way I had the chance to check him if he brings me something or he had something. In my observation every time he brings colored candles he automatically locks himself alone in their room and he always does this after our dinner. And there’s a time that he don’t bring anything and he don’t lock himself alone. One time because of my desire to know is too strong I can’t control myself to ask my father directly on that. But he never gives me a reason nor explanation, he just says ‘’shut up and don’t ask me again about that’’ but in my deep inner self I really want to know that.
My other experience is through my grandfather on my mother’s side. He is into talisman and amulet. He wears different kinds of talisman like the triangular one with one eye and its back has a holy family and it’s made of ‘’tanso’’ or copper, the other type is the eye image back to back. According to my grandfather the tanso or copper is good for protection against witches. It is good for any types of hexing or cursing that is why it’s advisable to wear any kinds of accessories made of tanso or copper. Then he also explain to me the difference of the two triangular type of talisman the first one with the image of eye and holy family at the back is good for family protection while the other type which is the back to back of an eye images is good for ‘’tagabulag’’ or for invisibility meaning if your wearing this talisman you are invisible to the eye of those person who has a negative intention towards you. He also have a different kinds of amulet or ‘’mutya’’ like mutya ng ‘’langka’’ or jackfruit which is best to use if you have a business and ‘’mutya ng palay’’ or rice seed amulet for prosperity. He also taught me on how to activate and bless this talisman and amulet through a christian prayer. He also taught me on what the right attitude of the person should be if they are carrying talisman and amulet. Through my grandfather I found relief and answers to my deepest question. He gives me enlightenment, the inner spark starts to reveal and my path and journey start to begin.

In this Blog we have seen that both stories share how we discover magick and embrace it into our lives. It shows that as a human being that lives in the Christian Era, we have seen Magick being practiced secretly even if the Church forbid its members to do it. Though the force of Magick allow us to be free from the limitation of the Church and develop our Faith to the Great Power that is beyond religion. What make’s it powerful is the result that it brings to our life. Magick is an ability that is available for all. It is an instrument to build our faith to the Supreme Power. This supreme power is not limited only to one religion and it can be found in all human being as all beings are created by this power. As a Filipino, we have our own Supreme Divinity which we can call upon. But who is our God or the Supreme Divine that is indigenous to our land? This topic we are going to discuss on our next blog. But for now, let us have a cup of coffee and enjoy our day.
Until next time. May you always be Blessed!
