It is said that Ancient Filipino are Highly spiritual people rather than religious. Each individual in the ancient time has their own belief system to the source of life and do work them out in their life rather than to fear them as opposed to what historian write about our ancestors that the Worship of the Ancient Filipino people to the Divinity is based on Fear. They site their evidence from the superstition and mythological creatures that exist in the old days such as in the existence of Aswang, Kapre, Tikbalang, Dwende, Sirena and others. But are we moved by Fear as opposed to our nature as Brave and Courageous?
And i say NO!
Our Worship is not Based on Fear but on Love. The mythological creature that been told in the Folk Tales are demonized form of our beliefs in the Divinity by modern Religion. And indeed we do not worship with the Gods such as how do people worship their god in the modern church but what we do is we Work with the Gods.
This is the reason why ancient Filipino does not need religion because since the beginning of time, Filipino people are not separated from our God; and this is the reason why we are Highly Spiritual People because we work with God in Creation, Co Creation and Re Creation.
Why do People worship God?
People worship God in adoration and reverence. Many people have formulated their worship procedures in seeking for God’s grace to come in their life as if God is far away from them as such as they lift up their hands to heaven to reach out to God or they bow down to earth in humble adoration or they wail on the sacred walls where they believe that once upon a time God have walked down to Earth.
But for us in Luntiang Aghama and most indigenous and earth based spiritual religion, we worship God within our Body as God is not separated from us but dwell within us. Such as the Traditional African Religion practices Trance Working or Spirit Possession because our own body is owned by the Divine Spirit. Possession in terms that we belong and owned by the Divine and not in a sense that the Spirit enter our body.
Philippine Indigenous spirituality also practice Trance Working as evidence by the works of Mumbaki (Native Shamans/ Priest) of the Mountain Provinces; by the Katalonan and the Babaylan. Our Body is the Living Temple of the Divine and fear is not one attribute to describe our Worship for we do not worship God that is a far but we work with God that is within us all.
