And as a Priest we use appropriate titles on our name depicting that we serve our religion well. Such as if you are a Pujari, it means that you are a Hindu Temple Priest and you lead worship to a Hindu God; so as the Imam who is a Muslim Religious leader who leads Prayer to Allah.

There are many people now-a-days whether they live in the Philippines or overseas who sought to call them selves as Babaylan, but do you know what Babaylan is?

babaylanBabaylan is a Priest or Priestess of the Ancient Religion of the Philippines. They are the intermediaries of the Old Filipino Gods which are the Anito. Anito is a general term for the Deity and it also pertains to the Nature Spirits and Ancestral Spirits. As a Babaylan, they work out with these Spirits to bring Good Luck and Prosperity to mankind. A person can not call themselves as a Babaylan just as they like it to be. There are conditions and requirements that needed to undergo before becoming a Babaylan like if you are going to be a Roman Catholic Priest, you need to go to the Seminary and be ordained as a Priest.

The Religion of the Babaylan is not called Babaylanismo such as the religion of Imam is not called Imamnismo nor the Catholic Priest as Priestism. The Babaylan worships the Anito and the religion of the Babaylan is Anituhan.
