When we say ritual, many people will think of Magickal or Indigenous people. Though they are one in mind that these group belongs to folk religion who practice spirituality that does not belong to the Major Dominant Abrahamic Religion. Many of these people are cultural bearer which people expect that all the time they should present themselves in ancient attire. But the problem with this is that when people see these folks, the see them presenting culture for entertainment.
Performing ritual is not a cultural presentation for entertainment. It is an expression of faith by the ritualist in asking the spirits for guidance and blessings. Some people would say that a ritualist should wear colorful clothing that the spirit will see them and bestow the ritualist what they are asking to the spirits. But in our understanding that colorful clothes and attire is just for the mundane aspects of our life. Spirt does not look on our Mundane aspect but see the aspect of our souls if we are radiating with flying colors.
Does that mean that the spirit will only look at the rich and hear their prayers because they are the only ones who could afford to buy colorful attire? So, the poor will be neglected because they do not have enough money to buy fancy clothing’s. I remember when I was in the Bible Baptist Church when we do the community saturation drive in inviting people to come to the Church, we walk on the street wearing coat and tie or barong and knock on people house to invite them come to church. But those people hesitate to come not only it was different religion but some would not come because they do not have formal dress.
I also know one person who loves our teaching in Luntiang Aghama but does not want to join us because he thinks that in order to become our member, he should wear indigenous attire. And that is the saddest truth among spiritual organizations that we dress up to portray that we are someone who is different from the rest. But what is important in spiritual development is our soul. The Soul is the original dress of our physical body that give us identity. It is the activity of our souls that the spirit identifies us. And with that recognition of the Spirit to us, we can guarantee their Blessings and Guidance.
